Any intellectual with an earned graduate degree, a master’s degree or Ph.D., should immediately start applying for an online faculty position because the implementation of distance education technology is continuing to expand at a fast rate across all academic disciplines. The actual reason for this acceleration is less dramatic than many adjunct instructors current believe or understand at this time. The academic budgets at all levels of education are being slashed by the state administrations that provide the necessary monies to operate public education institutions, but the post-secondary academic institutions such as community colleges, state-colleges and four-year universities are being impacted most by these economic circumstances. At the same time the monies are drying up, the student populations, comprised for the most part by new and returning college and university students hoping that further education and training will improve their chances in the job market, are ballooning far beyond their normal sizes. As a result of this set of circumstances, there are more online bachelor degree programs and online master’s degree programs being offered every day, and each new online college class within an online college degree programs creates another online faculty opening.
There are thousands of post-secondary academic institutions, which include for-profit colleges, now that offer their students the chance to enroll in online degree programs that all them to earn an online counseling degree, a law degree online or a psychology degree online. In fact, in the next few years practically every academic discipline will be taken onto the Internet and made available to students in the form of online college degree programs. As academic administrators scramble to reduce the operational costs of the physical campuses, they will increasingly need technically savvy online adjunct instructor to teach the proliferating online college courses.
Since online teaching does not require the online adjunct instructor to be in any one geographical location there is another important factor that requires inclusion in the formula that illuminates just why teaching online for multiple online college degree programs is a winner and just how important it is to build a teaching schedule filled with online adjunct faculty positions. This factor involves the rising costs of operating a motor vehicle in order to drive between two or, perhaps, three physical campuses every day of the week. Of course, in order to have three college or university campuses to teach on it will be necessary to live in a fairly densely populated urban area. As an alternative to spending the majority of the little amount of salary paid for teaching college students in a few physical classrooms is to teaching online for five or six different online bachelor degree programs without ever having to spend a nickel on fuel to arrive in the online classroom.
These are the reasons any individual with an earned graduate degree and an interest in teaching online for a career should begin to examine the growth of online college faculty positions immediately. The growth of distance education is undeniable at this point, and any traditional adjunct college instructor or any academically qualified person that is currently considering college teaching as a part time or full time career should use a personal computer to locate the faculty application sections of the over five thousand post-secondary institutions and start making multiple applications for an online faculty position as soon as possible.
